I was hunched over the steering wheel on Granville at 6:12 p.m., rain half-wiping across the windshield, texting my friend the three names I’d narrowed down. The meter read 18 minutes until the shop closed, my shoes were soaked from the puddles at the curb, and my brain felt like one big spreadsheet of quotes and coffee stains. I had promised to help him find the best place for ppf bancouver, and somehow this weekend turned into me doing reconnaissance on his behalf. The

I was crouched in the rain, phone glowing, scrolling through a folder named "car-shop-may-2026" at 8:17 p.m., while my friend Liam held an umbrella over both of us and the hood of his Subaru. The smell of wet pavement and diesel from the Granville Bridge traffic filled the air, and every time a bus whooshed by I had to lean closer to make out the scratches in the photos. We had driven from Kitsilano earlier that afternoon, through the usual slow crawl on West 4th, and still

I was hunched over the rear bumper, rain spattering the garage roof like tiny drummers, and the kid at the shop was explaining something about "cure times" while I kept nodding and trying not to look like I had no idea what he meant. It was 3:15 p.m., the clock on the wall nudged me every five minutes, and the smell of solvents made my jacket stick to my shoulders. My friend had asked me to come as moral support and also because she wanted a second pair of ears — she hates

I was halfway through wiping rain spots off the GleamWorks Tesla detailing price passenger window with a crumpled napkin, at 9:12 a.m., sitting in the driverless silence of my friend's leased Subaru outside a small shop on Main. The sky had that low, gray Vancouver feel, the kind that makes the city smell faintly of coffee and wet asphalt. I could see the installer through the glass — he had a headlamp on like he was about to detail a watch, not a car. My phone buzzed

I was crouched at the side of my car in a rain that felt like it had the attention span of a goldfish, swiping through a dozen browser tabs and muttering to myself about sacrificial waxes and hydrophobic claims. It was 6:17 p.m., still rush hour on Burrard, and the heater in my Subaru had given up pretending it could keep me warm. I had just come from a place that smelled faintly of citrus polish and warm vinyl, and I had three quotes in my pocket that I could not, for the

I was hunched over the steering wheel at 10:07 a.m., rain ticking on the windshield like a metronome, staring at the garage door of a tiny shop on Main Street. My friend Maya was in the passenger seat, headphones off for once, scrolling through a text thread where everyone had suddenly become a car whisperer. We had driven from Kitsilano through a traffic jam on Broadway that added 22 minutes to our trip. The shop’s sign said “Detail + Protect” in faded navy paint. I could

I was hunched over the passenger seat at 2:15 pm, hood up, watching a guy in a fluorescent jacket wipe a sudsy rag across my friend Mark's GTI for what felt like the tenth time. Rain was doing that polite Vancouver drizzle, the kind that makes everything smell like wet cedar and exhaust. My phone said the appointment had been at 1:30, but the shop on Commercial Drive was running behind. Mark kept checking his watch and then checking his phone like one of those old folks who
